Application

Applications are Open.

The application process is pretty simple. This is intended to cut down on the time the moderator spends reviewing applications, as well as to simplify entry into the game. While applications are considered a process by which mods can determine if someone is truly invested in play, Dusk of the Gods has an overall format which requires regular activity, and has several measures in place to prevent the dreaded "character squatter".

Please fill out the provided form and submit it as a comment in the responses. As the application form is very straightforward and should require no revisions, applications will either be Accepted or Rejected.

If your application is rejected, please wait one month before applying again (as you would for a game with a normal application cycle) unless you are given other directions.

The application is really easy. You literally just have to follow instructions.

Applications are reviewed within 24-48 hours of submission. If 48 hours have passed and your application has not been reviewed, please reply to your application with a note reminding the mod to get on it.

Are you over 18? Yes.
Other characters: No.

Character's Name: Ariston Nikas.

Character's Canon: White Trash Zombie series. Here is a link to the author's page.

Profile for your character: Nikas is a 2,000-something year old zombie who originated in Greece. He serves as the resident researcher, inventor, and doctor for a zombie mafia (called "The Tribe") in Louisiana, and has ties to the main character of the series (Angel Crawford) as her mentor and friend. Nikas is what the series refers to as a "mature" zombie, meaning that his human anatomy can't be distinguished from the parasite that makes him a zombie; he heals fast, can go longer without eating brains, can create other zombies without the process being really disgusting, and can mind-control zombies he creates by jumping on them and biting their necks. Weird, right?

Eating more brains than he needs to survive is called "tanking", and gives him something akin to superpowers: he's exceptionally fast, very strong, and nigh impossible to kill. When the effects of the brains wear off, however, he becomes lethargic and exhausted.

Due to a mob situation that occurred in Greece several hundred years ago, Nikas is severely agoraphobic; he can go out and about, but it takes a lot out of him emotionally and mentally.

Also, he's just a really nice guy.

Writing Sample: Nikas on the TDM

Why do you believe your character is an appropriate fit for this game? I think that Nikas, with his medical background, would be beneficial to non-native characters in the game. A doctor who doesn't flinch at most any strange malady would be exceptionally useful. He's also a friendly, intelligent man who would be good for helping drive the character development of others (which is one of his purposes in the series from which he's taken.)

What would you like to do with your character in this game? I will have a better response to this once I see who else is in the game.

Do you understand the rules? Hope so. I wrote 'em.

Character's Name: Tatra

Character's Canon: Magic Knight Rayearth

Profile for your character:
Tatra is the calm and friendly to her sister’s agitated and thorny. She faces all things with a smile and most things with a nice warm cup of tea. The two princesses of Chizeta have a remarkable sense of duty to their homeland, and set off on a mission that may well be impossible just to expand their tiny country and give their citizens much needed space to live.

Tatra’s frank declarations of truth are always accompanied with a spoonful of sugar. Her sweet smile and relaxed posture give the impression of perfect calm; nothing could phase her. She reminds her sister that although the truth may not be what she wants it to be, there is always a positive spin you can put on it. Tatra’s world does not revolve around being correct: it revolves around happiness, and around her sister.

The two princesses are nearly inseperable. They make a perfect pair to rule a country: One calm and optimistic, the other intense and forceful. Although Tarta could easily take control by sheer force of personality, Tatra eases her back to calm through her own antics and the façade of innocent naïvety. The two tease each other back and forth, Tarta with anger and Tatra with big, watery eyes.

Although she does not appear to be the more mature at first glance, Tatra has a grace belying her royalty that Tarta cannot copy. Tatra is a stable rock for Tarta to cling to in times of trouble. When trouble comes, Tatra is inevitably ready to handle it with a dark seriousness completely the opposite of her usual carefree attitude. Even though she has the power to take control, Tatra supports all of her sister’s decisions while doing her best to act as a guide.

She may act ditzy and airheaded, but Tatra is definitely the more thoughtful of the Chizeta princesses. When challenged by danger, Tatra’s determination and anger are a force to be reckoned with. She uses her strength to protect herself, her sister, and her country.

Writing Sample: These were good times and nicely display my inability to remember what tense I'm writing in.

Why do you believe your character is an appropriate fit for this game? I think Tatra will be a lovely addition to the pantheon, and a general delight for the natives and PCs alike to have around. She's used to royal treatment but aware enough not to put a strain on resources. She is also really good at creating an atmosphere of calm, which will probably be helpful for PCs too.

What would you like to do with your character in this game?
Step 1: be Goddess of Hearth and Home
Step 2: have tea
Step 3: ?
Step 4: profit

Character's Name: Chase Collins

Profile for your character: EYYYYY (and more info and supplemental stuff)

Writing Sample: Here you go

Why do you believe your character is an appropriate fit for this game? Because he's a power-hungry maniac, and that's just what you need in a deity. I mean, really, that's all there is to it with Chase and this premise. He's somebody who'll enthusiastically play musical thrones and get REALLY INTO IT, which might also push others-- those more reluctant to get involved-- into taking on godly positions just so that there are Responsible Adults in the pantheon to keep him in check.

What would you like to do with your character in this game? Go for the most METAL AND BADASS of thrones. Most games I put him in, Chase has to learn how to move beyond his addiction to power and magic. It'll be interesting to see how he does in a setting that might feed into his worst impulses.

Why do you believe your character is an appropriate fit for this game? Valdis would have a lot of fun in this world, especially with her personality being drawn toward causing mischief and chaos between others. Not only would she be a great ally for PCs, but she’s also not afraid to do her own thing, even if it is in conflict with previous promises. She’s not necessarily interested in power, but having power makes things more entertaining.

What would you like to do with your character in this game? Have her become the goddess of Mischief and then cause as much of it as she can.

Character's Name: Ryan the Vagabond Guy

Character's Canon: Achievement Hunter: Let's Play GTA V

Profile for your character: Ryan's...Ryan's an interesting fellow, to be sure. He's a member of a gang called the Fake AH Crew, the most feared gang in Los Santos. He's their attack dog, known only to the police and the public as the Vagabond, hiding his identity behind a black skull mask and a voice changer when he's on the job. And he's vicious. He kills for fun and just because he can, and he's ruthless.

And if he gets knocked down? He gets back up again.

Everyone in the Crew is immortal - they can die, but they'll come right back if they do, as long as whatever injury killed them isn't obstructed (e.g. if someone stabs him and leaves the knife in, he can't heal around that, but if he gets his throat torn out, that'll regenerate in a matter of minutes. And he won't be happy with that). This makes them take stupid risks and follow the code of "live fast, die young", because the last part doesn't apply too much. They do what they want, dangerous street races, knocking each other around with cars dangling from military helicopters, daring bank heists...because they know they can come back.

Ryan can be charming with his mask off - except for the skull face paint beneath it, to protect his identity. Because his day job...is a male model. Not even his crewmates know that, because none of them have seen him without his face paint on. But nobody really knows where he goes, and nobody asks, because everyone's still a little frightened of him, even when he's on their side. He's not above shooting one of his crewmates to prove a point. Or for fun.

But he's quite level-headed when he's on a murder break, and personable. He'll make friends with you, and if he likes you, he might not kill you. Not right away, anyway. But even when he's being charming, he's still a little...off. The boy ain't right.

Writing Sample: tagging as wrathfulkhan

Why do you believe your character is an appropriate fit for this game? Well, he's an immortal murderer who hides his fits of murder beneath a charming facade. What better man to contend for the throne of death?

What would you like to do with your character in this game? Steal the Death throne. Repeatedly. For fun.

Why do you believe your character is an appropriate fit for this game? Because even though he's not the most social of butterflies, Jefferson's a character who tends to adapt very well to strange settings and situations, and he's driven to get his daughter back at all costs, which means: desperate man + grey morality + musical thrones = a wealth of potential plotting.

Writing Sample: Here's a link to an open log at my (hopefully soon to be "other"!) current game. c:

Why do you believe your character is an appropriate fit for this game? Cissie is friendly and outgoing, and she has a drive to help people, especially once she gets to know them and starts making friends. She's super loyal and protective, and her relationships are really her driving force. Once she realizes she doesn't have to hide her past, she'll make friends easily, and then she'll really want to get involved do what she can to help. Which may well include claiming a throne, but I'm mostly interested in seeing what develops through her CR!

What would you like to do with your character in this game? I'd like to see Cissie make some friends, maybe make a few enemies, get involved in things... basically, I have nothing in particular in mind, but I'm super interested in seeing where it all goes!

Character's Name: Dominique DiPierro

Character's Canon: Mr. Robot

Profile for your character: Dom is one of nature's own detectives—stubborn, persistent, patient, and unafraid to stand up to her superiors. She is intensely loyal and will stick her neck out for you if she believes in you. At one point, she says that she's "disgusted by the selfish brutality of the world, but at the same time, I'm utterly fascinated by it". She jokes that the FBI is the perfect place for someone with those kinds of contradictory impulses, and there's really probably some truth to that joke. When she plays good cop, it's not really an act. She is also a complete awkward turtle personally, with (by her own admission) no personal life outside of work apart from the odd anonymous sex chat and conversations with her Amazon Echo. She's bad at intimacy but also dreadfully lonely.

After the events of Mr. Robot S3, she is now also completely distraught, her life having basically been completely wrecked.

Writing Sample: Test drive.

Why do you believe your character is an appropriate fit for this game? She arrives with a ton of hideous baggage and a strong sense of ethics and morality that has just suffered a terrible beating. So of course she needs to be thrown into a completely alien setting where—surprise!—she's now the God of Justice.

What would you like to do with your character in this game? Reluctant but effective God of Justice who is also incidentally dealing with a lot of Deeply Fucked Up Shit from the things that happened to her before she showed up here.

Character's Name: Liir Thropp/Ko

Profile for your character: Plenty about him here.

Writing Sample: beep boop

Why do you believe your character is an appropriate fit for this game? Both because of his intense connection with the concept of memory/time and because he is someone who actually concerns himself with the politics and realities and the ethics of power. The idea of being a god, the importance of it, is something that he would wrestle with, especially given that being a god of something in a place would add something to the world, but his own concerns about whether he should have power would make for an interesting dichotomy. He's the sort of person who acts when he feels that he should but he feels that inaction is important too, and I think that makes for an interesting sort of thought process both for someone who's going to be a deity and in a politics-driven game.

What would you like to do with your character in this game? God of time, work on his writing, trying to learn the ways of this world and how it works, make... friends? He's really bad at socialization but maybe this sort of place'll go better.

Are you over 18? Yes.
Other characters: New player.

Character's Name: Eirika.

Character's Canon: Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones.

Profile for your character: A princess forced out of her home suddenly due to the threat of war, Eirika spends most of her time traveling alongside an esteemed knight of her kingdom (Seth) in search of her twin brother. With her homeland invaded and the death of her father who was the king, she is forced into a leadership position all while the weight of a potential crown rests on her head. While other members of royalty in the surrounding lands offer to keep her safe, she insists on traveling herself as to not burden them (or to paint a target on their back) because it's important to her that she reunites with her brother, Ephraim.

Notoriously kind, her sweet demeanor often is underestimated by those around her and while she is taken advantage at times due to her naivete, Eirika is, for the most part, a girl with a good head on her shoulders. Traveling throughout the continent of Magvel, she meets many people from different backgrounds and gains a better understanding of the kingdoms that neighbor her own. It's a journey that both enlightens and teaches her as she learns to balance benevolence with duty. When it comes to slaying the demonic threat that has taken over her friend and doing what's right, she goes right for the kill. Even though she opposes violence, she's not above fighting if it's what needs to be done, though if given the opportunity to forgive someone rather than fight them, she would most definitely sway towards an apology. It's her brother who enjoys the thrill of the fight, and since she is often having to pick up after him due to that behavior, it's understandable why she's not pleased with battle in general.

She's not a tactical genius nor is she well versed in combat, though it seems she can hold her own quite well. Having been taught how to wield a rapier a few years prior to the start of the war by her brother, she prefers combat to be swift and up close. She's familiar in both riding a horse and fighting atop one, as well as camping out in the wilderness and tending to one's wounds.

Writing Sample: link to a meme thread I mostly wrote while out of the country on vacation.

Why do you believe your character is an appropriate fit for this game? Even though she has spent most of her journey balancing the mental weights of a tactical leader and princess, she hasn't been able to spend much time in a position where her word is law. Throughout her travels in Magvel, she is undermined by her far more experienced troops (such as her knight Seth, who is well versed in both politics and combat) and protected by a number of men. To be placed in an environment where she doesn't have these safe guards and has to make decisions that could have an affect on others would be interesting to see. Having to defend her role possibly (if she gets assigned to one) would be an interesting take as well: as a princess, she has likely always had her royalty given to her. Having to fight to maintain it or to accept that the newcomer might be better at it could be an interesting thing to play through. Will she forgive or be caught up in the pride that royalty often surrounds themselves with?

What would you like to do with your character in this game? Have her grow in a way that we don't get to see in canon. Since her brother assumes the throne when they return, she just remains a helpful princess who aids in the restoration of Magvel in whole. Basically she gets kind of shoved into the typical end game role and I'd like to see her expand beyond that. This game can test her in ways she wasn't tested in canon and open up opportunities for relationships that were denied in her game.

Do you understand the rules? Yes, they're fairly reasonable. I don't see why anyone would have issue with them. I found this place via a replurk btw!

Character's Name: Orion Luis

Writing Sample: Action Sample

Why do you believe your character is an appropriate fit for this game? Orion is a priest in his original world, called upon to help the ancient gods develop a following of believers in order to return to their full strength. He's also been in a situation of being pulled into another world where the gods there had disappeared and things stopped working as they should have (Time also stopped in that world, for instance). This is the exact sort of thing he was born for.

What would you like to do with your character in this game? Nothing definite yet, but I'd be interested in him becoming a priest of a god/dess and caring for/protecting their Temple. Orion can be very noncommittal without a cause, so I'd like to explore him finding one and devoting himself to it - whatever that cause may wind up being. I'm also open to storyline in which he finds himself torn between perceived obligations (such as friends with opposing interests), although I'd prefer to explore the opposite angle with him and think this game would be a good fit for that.

Writing Sample: My usual is a untamed mix of fourth wall breaking, overwrought metaphors, and ooey, gooey feelings.

Why do you believe your character is an appropriate fit for this game? Well, he was chosen by destiny or fate or someone else who really didn't think things through to become High King of a land like, literally actually on the verge of ending, and has through a lot of trial and error done okay at that! So he's learned a lot about being responsible for a scrillion tiny lives, and lbr, that is far, far more than a lot of pantheons ever bother to learn.

On a not unrelated note, the gods in his world who haven't just fucked off and disappeared are by and large irresponsible assholes, so at least he a] knows what not to do and b] is. kind of used to this.

What would you like to do with your character in this game? If no one has it yet I think he'd be a good fit for a Dionysusesque position? Or something that seems completely inappropriate like hearth and home, hahaha, since despite all his shrieking and tearing of sackcloth, he actually really does care about Fillory a lot, and the concept of Home is super important to him.

Character's Name: Jason Todd/Red Hood

Character's Canon: DC Comics Preboot

Profile for your character: Jason Todd was adopted by Bruce Wayne at the age of twelve, and soon thereafter became the second Robin, taking the role after his predecessor had moved on. The former Robin may not have been happy about it, but Jason had the time of his life serving justice and protecting the innocent. It was every slightly bloody-minded, passionate-about-justice kid's dream come true.

Until he got beaten mostly to death, and then blown up the rest of the way.

When he came back it wasn't as fun. He felt like he'd been forgotten and abandoned, and he was furious that his death had gone unavenged. He took out his anger on the crime bosses of Gotham, and on the family that he felt had abandoned him and--even worse--replaced him. Eventually, he was able to let go of... some of that anger. Enough to work with his adopted brothers, though never really with Bruce again. He still has both anger management and daddy issues, and a bit of a hair trigger on both.

His primary language is sarcasm and self-deprecation.

Writing Sample: As mrsarcastic003

Why do you believe your character is an appropriate fit for this game? I think Jason would be an entertainingly cranky addition to the pantheon as the god of stop fucking worshiping me. And also because as someone who has spent the better part of his life fighting what Superman calls "the neverending battle," he might be an excellent candidate for the god of war.

What would you like to do with your character in this game? See above--reluctant and deeply cranky god of war and tactics.

However she rarely fights unless the situation is dire. She prefers healing and helping. So all of those skills that come with her heritage should be helpful in some way.

What would you like to do with your character in this game? Literally befriend everyone and love and cherish them all. Also gently boop their noses when they're being daft. Her bff is the mermaid coffee boy, so she'll have a lot to do with coffee too. She just kinda dances around and plays violin a lot, and talks to bees. Also Goddess of Love! She is the perfect fit!

Do you understand the rules? Yes! Don't be a dick! Got it.

Are you over 18? 24

Character's Name: Sasha Scala

Character's Canon: OC

Profile for your character: His app for Eudio!

Writing Sample: Slow recoveries from demonic possessions.

Why do you believe your character is an appropriate fit for this game? On both the surface and at his core, Sasha is a kind person. He tends towards being timid, but he cares about others and would see Vernos Bay as the kind of place that needs some love and care, and he would basically be a good member of society.

What would you like to do with your character in this game? Though Sasha would never dream of taking a position as a god, even if it's unoccupied and uncontested, that is not to say he would not change his mind. If it was a matter of necessity, if there was something vital and lacking from Vernos Bay, he would very potentially think again and step up! As I said, he's always very invested in the well being of others. However, at the moment he's perfectly content to be the consort of the God of the Ocean, since that's his husband.

Do you understand the rules? Absolutely!

Are you over 18? Aw yeah
Other characters: Tatra

Character's Name: Princess Zelda

Character's Canon: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Profile for your character: Zelda is insecure. Like many teenagers, she doesn’t feel like she fits in or has a proper place in the world. She feels personally responsible for her inability to manifest the sealing power that is her birthright, and consequently the deaths of all four Champions. Zelda tells us and Urbosa confirms that she has been praying nearly every day of her life, sacrificing her own health in the process. Through this routine she's learned great self-discipline, but also internalized the feelings of failure and inadequacy. She feels like a freak and a failure, unwilling and unable to fulfill her duty. It’s important to note that she doesn't ask the Goddess what she's doing wrong, but what's wrong with her. This insecurity doesn’t only apply to her role as descendent of the Goddess, but extends into her other relationships as well. She finds it difficult to believe that people like her or ever really understand her.

At her core Zelda is a kind and compassionate person. She cares a great deal about her people and her world. She’s pretty observant too, and learns to read Link’s moods well even though he rarely talks to her or expresses himself outwardly.

In her interactions with others and her earlier interactions with Link we see that Zelda is quite restrained. This is her pride and sense of royal priorities at work. When she goes out into the world she represents her family and her kingdom, and she can’t ever forget that fact. She has trouble faking excitement but is quite skilled at looking somber and focused, expressions more suitable for a princess.

Being raised by her very somber and focused father the king has produced a dignified princess who is well equipped to navigate the politics of her kingdom, but not at all equipped to deal with her own feelings. The stronger her emotions, the tighter her hold on herself. When she shows emotion, like when she expressed her frustration to her father, she is immediately shut down. Refusing to address these emotions has become an effective defense mechanism for her.

Zelda is incredibly stubborn, brave, and surprisingly self-sufficient for a princess. She often runs off on her own, purposefully ditching her bodyguard as she thinks he's unnecessary. When Ganon returns she's clearly terrified, but she refuses to run and hide. She keeps trying to express her feelings, even though we can see the distress it causes her and the effort it takes. She may not have the practical experience that commoners of her kingdom do, but she is always willing and eager to learn.

She's also a huge nerd, which is very fitting for the holder of the Triforce of Wisdom. She spends all of her free time in research, learning about everything from biology to history and dead languages. She prefers the scientific method but has been known to get so excited about new discoveries that she's willing to blow it off. When she does get excited, Zelda seems to transform into the child she was never allowed to be. She speaks more quickly, smiles more, and moves around more than she does under normal circumstances. Research seems to be one of the only things that genuinely excites her, and it has since before her mother died. Although she was conscious and aware for the 100 years between the Calamity and Ganon’s defeat, she didn’t have much of an opportunity to learn new things or gain new experiences. At the end of the game she regains that old energy, and is excited to see what new things life has to offer her.

Writing Sample: here

Why do you believe your character is an appropriate fit for this game? If I take her from the end of the game she won't be having a nonstop panic attack about Ganon and can actually like, participate and try to take care of people

What would you like to do with your character in this game? Become a goddess, build a library, be a huge nerd, probably organize some stuff for PCs

Why do you believe your character is an appropriate fit for this game? River sort of lives in her own world most of the time anyway, and while she's going to be distressed that her brother and the crew aren't around, she'll adapt. I think it'll be interesting to see how she uses her unique abilities when some throne swapping starts going on, and what kind of allegiances she starts making because her perceptions of people are so different from average.

What would you like to do with your character in this game? River's brain is an adventure to play all on its own. But the Dream throne sounds hilariously ironic for her, if it's still open and she gets in.

Character's Name: Ellie

Character's Canon: The Last of Us

Profile for your character: (Briefly tell about your character, as if you were describing them to someone who has never met them. Links to other game applications or infoposts are acceptable, so long as it was written by you.)

A kind of fungus known as cordyceps dispersed among the population around 2013, and spread from person to person through the cordyceps spores and body fluid. When a person is infected, they become extremely violent and irrational after a maximum of two days, and then attack any humans they come across. Society collapsed as a result, and the military seized control of what they could - the rest became lawless territory, full of the infected and bandits with little respite in between. For a time there was hope for a cure, but over the course of twenty years, the only ones still trying to find a vaccine were the Fireflies: a guerilla group located all over the US, trying to fight against the military.

Enter Ellie. A young, impulsive teenager with a short temper, she’s been discovered to be immune to the bites of the Infected - possibly the only one around. The leader of the Fireflies, coincidentally a close friend of Ellie’s deceased mother, entrusts the care of Ellie to a couple of smugglers to get her from Boston to Colorado. The following few months tests Ellie with some of the worst and best things humanity has to offer. Finally, they find the Fireflies, where her now-father figure, Joel, decides to refuse to sacrifice her to the cause of the Fireflies, and instead kills most of the building and takes an unconscious Ellie away, telling her that the Fireflies had found other immune people and hadn’t been able to create a vaccine.

After this, Ellie is left purposeless, depressed, and ridden with survivor’s guilt. Before the loss and trauma, she was a rather cheerful fourteen year old who refused to let the horror of the world she lived in dim her enthusiasm for life. However, winter was a turning point for her, after she and Joel ran into a group of cannibals, one of which preyed on her specifically in every sense of the word. Since then, she’s been emotionally distant from Joel, and hasn’t been interested in acting like a teenager for quite some time. While she still enjoys telling puns from time to time, she doesn’t allow herself much time to indulge in joking anymore.

Writing Sample: this shows my general style of writing when I get really involved in a scene. I lean heavily towards the introspective side, which can be good and bad.

Why do you believe your character is an appropriate fit for this game?
Ellie just lost a lot of purpose in her life, and was met with the fact that all the people she’s killed and all the people she’s survived have meant nothing in the long run. She’s depressed, traumatized, and as it was put at the end of the game, she hasn’t found something to fight for again, yet. For a full year, so many people kept insisting that Ellie would be the one to change the world and bring an end to the infected, but that was all taken away from her. Power and the lack of it is a theme in her life, and for a long time the only thing she’s been doing is reacting to new situations. A new world that she can directly help to make better seems like something out of a dream. She’ll try to go home, but at this point in her life there’s only one person she’s interested in going back to, and it’s heavily implied that she knows Joel lied to her in some way. With that in mind…

It’ll be easy for her to step into a new world, one where she can try to do something helpful, for once.

What would you like to do with your character in this game?
I think becoming the goddess of hunting/wilderness would be a good start for her. Because of the nature of the post-apocalyptic world, she’s not all that familiar with technology. Beyond that, she’s a pretty decent hunter herself. Beyond that, I’d like to see her grow and change a bit - she’ll always be impulsive and short tempered, but some character growth could be fun! Whether it’s positive or negative remains to be seen, but this is the upside of playing a teenager.

Do you understand the rules?
Yup. Don’t be an asshole, don’t squat (unless it's slav squatting), label my logs, and communicate like an adult. Got it.

Character's Name: Geoffrey Tennant

Character's Canon: Slings and Arrows

Profile for your character: Geoffrey Tennant is a very good actor and he is a brilliant director. He's also rather unhinged, talks to dead people, will do ungodly things and suffer, well, the slings and arrows of just about anything or anyone in the pursuit of his art. And his chosen art is theatre, Shakespearean to be precise, which he takes as seriously as a human being possibly can. He generally looks like a vagabond, lives with a razor blade in his mouth mostly just Because, and has spent at least one season sleeping in the props room, much to some of the crews frustrations. He is sharp and passionate and difficult and exacting and he has a VISION and he is shameless and fearless in his pursuit of it. He's also had his entire life fall apart on him at least once and was arrested for strangling a swan. Basically, he's a disaster area of a person who happens to also dedicate every cell of his being to art.

Writing Sample: more of this LJ nonsense

Why do you believe your character is an appropriate fit for this game? I think Geoffrey will be a good fit because he is a FERVENT BELIEVER in at least one thing and of the characters I have who live in relatively normal worlds (like, you know, without magic for the most part, though he does see a ghost) he's the one who'd probably roll with this the best and he'll honestly take the concept seriously. For Geoffrey's given value of seriousness.

What would you like to do with your character in this game? God of Art, ngl. And he's probably going to spend a lot of time encouraging both the populace and the people of the bay in art, possibly going to start up a production and try and get people to try out. Socially, he's a trash fire, but he's actually a really active person who'll thrust himself into situations.

Do you understand the rules? Yup.

Are you over 18? still old
Other characters: Eliot Waugh

Character's Name: Gabriel Boutin

Character's Canon: Sally Green's Half Bad trilogy, a book series with a lot of great stuff going for it, and a whole lot of fucking problems.

Profile for your character: Since this is a thing other characters are always going on about, I feel it incumbent upon me to inform you Gabriel has beautiful hair.

......

ASIDE FROM THAT: Gabriel's canon separates witches (who have their own community distinct to non magical humans) into Black and White, which is. Uh. Someone should have thought of a different name, because wow them's some connotations. The distinction is not actually Evil/Good, it's more that white witches integrate with humans and generally ascribe to blending in, whereas black witches tend toward strong individualism and independence. As a result white witches tend to have gifts that are less obviously otherworldly (healing and such), while black witches get shit like shapeshifting and throwing lightning.

That's grossly oversimplifying things, but it's what I'd tell you over beers, so hey!

Gabriel is only super-invested in being a black witch so much as he is invested in being a witch (he accidentally spent time as a regular human and it was terrible), but he still has the typical distrust of white witches. Generally his instincts are right; he's very good at reading people, an ability which has served him upsettingly well in the current really upsetting war in which his world is embroiled. As a person he tries to be as kind as he can; while he doesn't hew super strongly to the concepts of good and evil, he clearly has a moral center that will only bend so much. He's generally a sunny person who smiles a lot and aims to lighten even dire situations, meaning the the fuse of his temper is about seven hundred miles long. Then he will actually yell, because ...he's a 19 year old boy and they tend not to be perfect specimens of emotional control, but he's also always very quick to forgive.

Fun extra bits: he is an ENORMOUS book nerd, an excellent marksman, and riddled with four hundred and eighty billion types of PTSD. He has a scar in one eyebrow because SOMEONE, not naming any names but they are Nathan Byrn, once tried to stab him in the face. They're in love now and it's great.

Writing Sample: Have Ignis this time.

Why do you believe your character is an appropriate fit for this game? Well, it can't possibly be more inappropriate than his actual canon--no really, in actual seriousness, the game setting - a world whose suffering he can ameliorate without slaughtering swathes of people - would afford Gabriel an opportunity to start recovering from the aforementioned four hundred and eighty billion types of PTSD, while also helping the most important person in his life.

What would you like to do with your character in this game? Most immediately I'd just like him to revel in the wonders of not being constantly cold, hungry, tired, and three feet away from probably having to shoot someone. In the long term it will depend on what connections he might make outside of Nathan; Gabriel's first instinct will be to stay close to him. He's not going to aspire to godhood unless it's absolutely necessary, i.e. the throne of whatever really needs a butt and no one else is stepping up.

Do you understand the rules? Unless something dramatic has changed in the last 48 hours, yes.

Are you over 18? Yes!
Other characters: N/A

Character's Name: Nathan Byrn

Character's Canon: That mess of a series, Sally Green’s Half Bad Trilogy

Profile for your character: Nathan Byrn is a quiet, nature-loving, caring Scottish boy wrapped in eighty thorny layers of trauma, torture, loss, scars of the psychological and physical kind and a multitude of other Bad Things. Born as a Half Code, i.e. half White witch and half Black, and as the son of one of the most infamous Black witches Britain has ever seen, he has grown up feared and punished for his very existence. As such, he is very much a product of his experiences; he is not quick to trust but he is quick to anger, tends to lean on violence rather than diplomacy, and can be ignorant to the wants and needs of others. Instincts, whether they be for survival or revenge, often rule his decisions.

That said, Nathan strives for goodness. He wants (and struggles) to find positivity in his life, and he wishes his mark on the world—if he has to leave one—could be one of change in the face of injustice. While moody and sarcastic at the best of times, he is capable of great kindness and gentleness towards those he has become close to, and while it may take him time to recognize his mistakes, he does own up to his weaknesses and his wrongs.

He is skilled in physical combat and can utilize a collection of magical Gifts (full list here) given to him by his father (by more tragic means involving eating... the man's heart), but all in all he would rather stretch out on a grassy hill in Wales away from technology (it tends to mess with his head) than have to kill anyone else, thanks.

Nathan can not really read or write, but he excels at art.

Writing Sample: Zetes is a lot cheerier than Nathan, but here is an example of how I generally do things!

Why do you believe your character is an appropriate fit for this game? To put it mildly, Nathan needs a break. He has spent the entirety of his life imprisoned under brutal conditions, running from those that would see him dead or manipulated, or fighting a war between witches he would have preferred to avoid. Leaving his home world would grant him a freedom he’s never had, a freedom which would afford him time to recover from a lifetime worth’s of trauma and a chance to make his own choices.

What would you like to do with your character in this game? I’d be interested in Nathan becoming the God of Animals and embracing that responsibility. And I’m just desperate for him to have some peace and quiet and quality time with Gabriel. (Maybe even make some friends!)

Do you understand the rules? I do!
